FAQ

Sizing and Fit

What's the correct prosthesis size for me?

Comfort ‘n’ Confidence™ external breast prosthesis are designed specifically to fit snugly within a properly fitted bra cup.

Visit our size chart page for more information.

How do I measure for cup size?

Measure your band size by wrapping a tape snugly under your bust and adding 4–5 inches based on even or odd measurements. For breast size, measure from the chest center over the fullest part to the back and double it. Subtract band size from breast size for your cup.

Visit our size chart page for details.

This guide is tailored for those searching for realistic breast prosthesis, natural breast forms, and breast prostheses.

How do I insert the prosthesis in my bra?

Place your Comfort ‘n’ Confidence™ external breast prosthesis front facing (the stitching sections the prosthesis into three parts where the largest section is considered the top of the prosthesis) into the cup of your desired Bra. The back of the prosthesis should be against your skin. Adjust the placement of the prosthesis to the most comfortable position. If it is too full remove some of the fill.

I am on the cusp of medium/large size what should I choose?

The Comfort ‘n’ Confidence™ external breast prosthesis is customizable, so you can add or remove fill to adjust the shape and the fullness. We advise choosing the larger size as overfilling the prosthesis can distort its shape.

Bra Types

What types of bras can I wear with my prosthesis?

Your Comfort ‘n’ Confidence™ external breast prosthesis was designed to be worn in regular bras. Mastectomy lingerie and pocketed bras are not necessary, but can still be used. You can place your prosthesis into the “pocket” of a mastectomy bra if necessary. Underwire is also not required. Avoid bras with deep cleavage or demi-cups, as they may not properly hold the prosthesis.

Insurance

Are breast prostheses covered by Canadian health care?

Provincial health insurance coverage varies from province to province. Some provinces have special programs in place to help cover the costs. Here is an excellent resource from the Canadian Breast Cancer Network to learn more: CBCN’s FinancialNavigator.

If you have private insurance, you may have coverage for breast prostheses. Call your private insurance provider to inquire what your plan covers regarding breast prosthetics and garments.
